Yanling — Seal of the White Moon · last updated 31 October 2026
Yanling is a game for learning Chinese. It is published by Grigorii ("we"). This policy says what leaves your device, where it goes and why. Questions or requests: info@yuyin.io.
Playing offline
The whole game can be played offline. Your journeys, your learning progress and your settings are stored only on your device. We do not receive them.
Online AI (only if you turn it on)
Speaking to characters, free phrasing and tone checks use online AI services. The game asks for your consent before anything is sent, and you can turn it off at any time in Settings → Online AI. When it is on:
| What | Sent to | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your voice, a few seconds at a time, while you hold the speak button | Deepgram (USA) and iFlyTek (Singapore) | To recognise what you said and to check your tones |
| What you type or say in Chinese | DeepSeek (China) | To understand free phrasing in the game |
| Lines to be spoken aloud | iFlyTek (Singapore) | To give characters a voice |
Requests pass through our server, which forwards them and does not store recordings or text. The services use them only to answer the request, under their own privacy terms. No name, email or contact list is sent.
Subscriptions
Payments are handled by Apple or Google. We use RevenueCat (USA) to know whether you have an active subscription; it receives an anonymous app user id and your purchase records from the store. Our server keeps that anonymous id, your subscription status, your time zone offset and how many online AI requests you made this day and month (to apply the daily allowances) — never what you said.
What we do not do
No advertising, no tracking across apps or websites, no analytics profiles, no sale of data.
How long we keep things
Usage counters: the current and the previous month. Records of players who never subscribed: deleted after 90 days without use. Server logs hold request sizes and timings, not content, and are kept briefly for operations.
International transfers
The services above are in the USA, Singapore and China. By turning on online AI you agree that the data described above is processed there for the purpose stated.
Your choices and rights
Turn online AI off in Settings; uninstalling the app removes everything stored on your device. Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask to access, correct or delete the record linked to your anonymous id, or object to its use: write to info@yuyin.io. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.
Legal bases: your consent for online AI (you can withdraw it at any time in Settings), and the performance of your subscription for the allowance records.
Children
Yanling is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes
When this policy changes in a way that matters, the app asks for your consent again before sending anything.
